When All Else Fails - It's Back To Basics

Happy 2011, everyone!!
We had a white Christmas in Georgia.
All of the grandkids were sick with the flu when I arrived
and couldn't play outside.
That makes snow a kind of a cruel joke!

I ended up in the hospital for four days, with Bronchitis.
When I came back, I had several more days of bed-rest.
The little grandbrats were better by then (thank God!)
and came to my room, to bless me with their smiles!
There's nothing better!!
(OK, maybe a piece of cheesecake is a close second.)

Then the cable was down for three days.
No TV.

No internet.
Seriously?!

To keep busy I started knitting the little one a scarf.
I was told she likes to 'accessorize'. I'm all for that!
My granddaughter (who just turned eight on Christmas Day)
decided she wanted to learn to knit.
(I may need to borrow that outfit!)

My six year old grandson, not to be outdone, picked up the needles too.
Then he used them as swords.

The finished scarf.
Let's see if she likes it...

Yes! A smile!
She gave the floor a good wipe with it.

A quick shake.

Let's try it as a hat. A nice fit indeed.

And it can keep my knees warm.

I have an idea!
Let me see how far apart I can spread the stitches,
with my bony little fingers!!

Or, maybe I can wear it like this.

Yes, definitely like this!

Thank you! I love it! It's SO me!!

The cable still wasn't working, so I knitted another scarf.
This one was for my son's friend.
I'd knitted him one last year, but he said "a dog tore it up".
In my vivid imagination, I saw a rabid dog, teeth gnarling, leaping at his throat!
When, in actuality,
he'd left it where a dog could reach it and use it as a chew-toy.
Boring.

My granddaughter wanted to help again.
(I just want to kiss that adorable little hand!)

The TV is working, the internet is up and running,
the scarves are completed, the kids are healthy again
and I felt good enough to write another blog-post!!
2011 is going to be a good year!!!!!!!! :-]
Happy New Year to you all!!

There are SO many things to love!
I love "Followers" and comments too!
(Thank you!)

Signing off for now,
gabriele

  3. Glad to hear you and your little ones are better. I have been on two rounds of antibiotics in a row now, just finished the last one today. No flu yet thank God, but did have the shot. Sometimes back to basics is a good thing. Love the scarves. You take care and rest, no relapses please. :)

  9. Oh Gabriele- I am so sorry to hear that you were hopitalized over the Holidays...and they kept you FOUR days? That tells me how sick you were because we like to get people out as fast as we can! I am glad you are feeling better now...rest....rest....rest...

How wonderful that you are teaching the "arts" to your granddaughter. She will be blessed all her life and remember you for teaching her. And that scarf and little one? Adorable! They are ALL adorable.

Happy New Year to my sweet friend- Diana

  13. Nana Diana,
Yes, I felt the worst I'd ever felt!!
On an IV drip the entire four days.
Went in dehydrated with migraines, a high fever and horrendous cough.
That dang cough is still rattling my bones - since the 21st!!
Still taking antibiotics, which I'm not a fan of, but what's a girl to do?!
At least my little ones are over the flu!!
You know what it's like seeing our kids/grandkids sick!! :(
My grandmother taught me to knit at that age, and I will always remember that with warmth in my heart. So, you may be right there. (Hope so!:)
Have a great New Year, my friend!!
    xoxo

  15. thank you for your comment! i really hope you get better. This is an excellent opportunity to document your feelings, symptoms, and anything else you think of. New raw fooders would really value this information especially coming from someone like you with experience. If you had a choice you probably wouldn't be eating the way you are now, SO. make the most of it :D!!

    I hope you have a great 2011,

    -Amy

But it looks like you got lots of help with your knitting projects and lots of sweet smiles. Kudos to you for having the patience to teach the little ones to knit ... on top of all the OTHER lovely things you teach them. What a great grandmother you are! Happy new year to you and yours!
